Laundry and Soft Goods Restoration
Every year one out of every five houses has water damage to a certain degree. Commercial, industrial, and retail buildings are damaged nearly as often. The most common source of water loss is a failure within the structure itself, such as a plumbing or appliance breakdown. Once a loss happens time is of the essence! Water can run rampant; destroying carpeting, cabinetry, trim, furniture, electronics, and anything else it touches. Hiring a certified structural drying company can turn a devastating loss into a minor inconvenience! Steamatic Total Cleaning & Restoration technicians are trained to minimize the loss as quickly as possible.
Identifying the Loss Type
Water losses can be broken down into three different category. Being able to identify a loss is the first step to properly and safely treating the loss:
Category 1:
Generally referred to as “Clean Water” within the industry, these losses contain no contaminates that are considered harmful to living organisms. A broken water supply line or a knocked over water cooler, for example, are class 1 losses.
Category 2:
Generally referred to as “Grey Water”, these losses contain a significant amount of contaminates. These types of losses can be harmful to people and animals given prolonged exposure or consumption. Examples of grey water would be dishwasher water discharges or toilet bowl overflows with only water and urine.
Category 3:
Generally referred to as “Black Water”, these losses are grossly contaminated. Class 3 losses provide a significant health risk to people and animals that are exposed to it. Black Water examples would be sewage losses, flooding from outside, Class 2 losses that have remained untouched for 48 or more hours, or toilet overflows that originated from beyond the toilet trap.

Water Damage Tips:
Once a home or business owner has identified the class of the water loss and determined it’s not a health risk to be exposed to the environment, there are several things that they can do to minimize the loss:
Water Loss Tips:
If you can’t stop the flow of water, contact a plumber
If possible, keep the indoor temperature below 70 degrees. This helps prevent microbial growth
Place foil or plastic below furniture legs to prevent rust or furniture stains on flooring
Turn off the electricity to any affected rooms
Place draperies through coat hangers and hang them on the rod to prevent water circles
Be extremely careful on wet, slippery floors
Remove items from the floor in affected closets
Remove breakable items from furniture items that will need to be moved
Remove oriental or area rugs off of wet carpet
Do not use household vacuum as this may cause an electrical shock
Try not to walk on wet carpeting as this may spread water to unaffected areas
Sewage Backflow Loss Tips:
For safety, do not enter the affected area until after decontamination
Pay special attention to children and pets. They are more susceptible to disease.
Do not attempt any cleaning for health and safety reasons
If you absolutely must handle contaminated materials, wear rubber gloves
If possible, leave the premises until after cleanup and decontamination

How We Proceed:
Steamatic Total Cleaning & Restoration is dedicated to providing the best quality service to our clients. All of our technicians are fully trained through the IICRC and adhere to the highest standards of customer service and technical ability. The IICRC S500 guidelines are nationally recognized standards for water and mold mitigation in the restoration industry.
In a water loss situation, the first step is to identify the loss. Once we’ve identified the loss we will begin extracting the water. If there is carpet, depending on the severity of the loss, the carpet pad will most likely need to be removed and disposed of. The carpet is then checked for delamination. Delamination is the separation of the secondary backing from the primary backing of the carpet. Once delaminating has begun the odds of salvaging the carpet drop dramatically.
Once we have extracted the water, the technician will use specialized equipment (moisture meters, thermal imaging cameras, etc.) to determine the extent of the damage to the structure. Drywall, Baseboard, Cabinetry, and other items that are so saturated they can not be saved will be removed. A professional company will be able to minimize this type of work! Quality structural drying is a process of saving as much as possible!
At this point we will use a variety of drying equipment including air movers, dehumidifiers, and focused air movement systems to rapidly dry the structure.
During the drying process, a Steamatic Total Cleaning & Restoration technician will monitor the humidity, temperature, and moisture levels of the affected areas to assure that it is drying appropriately. They will adjust the equipment levels as necessary and record the results for both our records and yours.
If the contents of the building were damaged during the loss, there is a great chance that Steamatic Total Cleaning & Restoration can restore them instead of replacing them!
